For a couple of years I had been searching for the perfect little gold necklace which I could wear everyday.

I didn’t want anything too big, too bulky, or anything that I had to think about. Just something I could slip on and would look pretty without drawing too much attention. I found it in the form of Helen Ficalora, an American jewelry designer who specializes in just the kind of jewelry I like, simple, classic, but with a twist. Pictured is my little golden bell. The chain is super fine, and I wear it long, so that it works with a variety of necklines and shirts. Possibly my favourite thing about it is the fact it actually works. If you’re running along somewhere, it has the most wonderful little tinkle,

The great thing about Helen Ficalora is the way you can personalize your pieces – her charms and chains are sold separately so you can achieve just the look you want, and her selection is incredible. After initials, diamonds, or something more whimsical? She has everything. It doesn’t hurt that her Bridgehampton, NY store is adorable – I also have a shorter chain with a tiny golden key, and every time I drive through on my way to East Hampton I have to physically restrain myself from purchasing.

If you’re looking for a beautiful little something I would definitely consider Helen Ficalora for beautifully unusual pieces.

My bell and chain together cost somewhere around $650, but I can’t remember the exact details. Because the chains and charms are priced by weight, they can vary, but my shorter chain with key was only around $300.
